At the core of the mattress is a pocket spring interior; a sleep system made up of small diameter springs housed within their own cloth sleeve.

Side stitching the border is a labour intensive and intricate technique that's reserved for top-end mattresses and performed by experienced craftsmen.
Side stitching is achieved by using a long upholstery needle and high-tension twine to attach the perimeter springs to the mattress border.
This adds strength to the mattress edge and prevents it from bowing out over time. It also provides edge-to-edge support across the mattress width.
