Top Irish Brands: Guinness and Kaymed Beds
Next to the bed company with no name and we never mention (begins with ‘H’ and ends in ‘E’), Kaymed Beds is one of my all time favourite brands.
And yesterday, as I held my Scottish Furniture Trade Benevolent Association (SFTBA) golf prize in hand, a Guinness coffee mug, donated by Kaymed, I thought, “What would I prefer: a pint of Guinness or a good night’s sleep on a Kaymed?”
Alas, many a pint of Guinness have I had, but not yet have I slept on a Kaymed. One day. Post recession, 2025. It’s on my bucket list.
Anyhow, yesterday’s SFTBA Golf outing at Deer Park, Livingston was a resounding success. Our team did struggle, despite having Stuart Gilchrist, our Birlea Beds ringer, who plays golf every week, and has a driver the cost of a small car.
It took David B, our E Commerce Director 14 holes to hit a fairway. He then played like Arnold Schwarzenegger, on Steroids. See that ball disappear into the stratosphere? Took out our internet satellite.
“How all of a sudden have you come good?” I asked. “Well you see”, DB says, “I re-configured the weighting on the head of my driver.” Who says our David is not a geek?
After the golf we lazed about outside, enjoying the sun. Challenged Sharon Morrison to climb inside a Welcome Pembroke blanket box (which I believe she accomplished this morning). We marvelled at Gillespies of Greenocks knees (rickets are rife in Inverclyde) and spent a lot of time saying horrible things about suppliers who hadn’t shown up. You had to hear their excuses.
Silentnight: “Can’t make it, I have an appointment with my personal trainer.” Bah!
Sealy: Actually we didn’t invite Sealy because they aren’t doing any decent deals right now. If they want to play golf in August they better get their act together.
Furmanac Mi Bed: Mr Hilliard (“I’m almost a pro you know”) was too modest to show.
We were nice to some people. Iain Anderson from Kaymed was looking glum. He’d broken his driver. “Come on guys” I thought, we should all chip in and buy our Iain a new one.”
Enough to say after the shark beat us out the park, our reaction was more to break a few more. Actually I have played Iain before. He could have beaten us just with his Mashie Niblick (all his fellow members of Dunskey, Port Patrick have one you know, and three balls too).
So it is back to work. We have a factory visit for our new starts to Kozee and Highgrove next week. I always enjoy a trip to Yorkshire. And we are looking forward to some fantastic new products.
Just introduced to our website the Kozee Nova Memory Mattress, the Restus Sleepcomfort 4 Drawer Divan, and from Highgrove a great new Ottoman divan base. Trust me. These products are going to be winners. No matter what, it’s a good excuse for a few John Smiths and a Black Pudding supper.
