Manufacturer History
In 1870, Zalmon G Simmons built a factory in Wisconsin, employing just 9 people to make and manufacture wooden cheese boxes. A complete change of direction saw him moving on to make and supply woven wire mattresses, and in 1889, Simmons began selling mattresses at a much cheaper rate because of the introduction of spiral coil springs.
Soon after the First World War, Simmons introduced comfortable cotton felt mattresses, and began manufacturing across America. A pioneer in advertising campaigns, Simmons had big names such as H.G Wells, Thomas Edison and Maureen O’Hara to testify that these were the most comfortable mattresses on the American market!
Very quickly, Simmons became not just a leading name in American beds and mattresses, but internationally and in the UK too, and Simmons Beds are available to buy in a number of retailers across the UK today.
