Record UK Internet Bed Sales
I’ve been reading The Cyclists Training Bible, by Joe Friel, over Christmas and an interesting analogy came to mind. It takes 7 years to train a cyclist. From the unfit, pot bellied bar fly in Kilmarnock to the lithe, super tanned maillot jeune of the Tour de France. It’s possible Billy, so the Bible says. You can do it.
And so I have been looking at our progress on the internet, from our original site designed by Yellow Pages in 2004 ( I had the hots for the Yellow Pages sales girl back then) to what we have now in 2011. From a sit-up-and-beg bike with a dog basket to the sleek mean cycling machine that we have today.
You would think that you buy a bike, you kit yourself out in pink lycra, you pedal like a maniac 8 hours a day, you give up sex and you give up alcohol. Surely it can’t take 7 years. Well that’s what David B and I have had to do, and 7 years later we’re still not there… quite.
Dave Brailsford, UK Cycling Performance Director, accounted for the UK cycling success at the 2004 Olympics as the accumulation of small advantages. And the internet team are at that point now. There are no longer any one-off big fixes. We can only look to Yakult and shaved legs and skin tight corsets to make the difference. One last copywriting session before bed. One last finely judged price match. One last electric bed sale with a matching headboard.
The vision is definitely before us. It’s not talent and it’s not luck. It’s that burning desire to be the best that only true Olympians such as what me, David B and the internet team are. Dave should look good in padded shorts btw (OK so the shorts don’t need to be padded).
So watch this space. We had more visitors visit to our site on Boxing Day than we had visit our site in a whole month just 3 years ago. Very soon more people will be watching us on a Saturday than watch the Old Firm. Georgios Sameras has sent in his CV.
