Pocket spring mattresses – are they the best?
The league table of mattress spring types used to go: Open Coil, Silentnight Miracoil, Sealy Posturepedic and finally Pocket Sprung.
Easy. More springs, independent of each other, was the best mattress technology - the ultimate profiling mattress with minimum partner disturbance was a pocket sprung mattress. Fling in some old fashioned hand side stitching and some horse hair and you could charge whatever you wanted.
But things have changed. Do we really need all that metal in a bed to get a good night’s sleep? Over the last couple of years both Silentnight and Sealy have brought out mattresses that offer a fusion of good robust and supportive spring systems with the very latest in materials technology – latex, memory foam and new super soft polyesters.
Both Sealy and Silentnight have research departments that dwarf the competition in budget and expertise. It’s hard to believe that it has taken them until now to find something better than a pocket sprung mattress filled with highly dubious materials such as the aforementioned horse hair, and cashmere and cotton and coire fibre. But it has….
And they have succeeded. Take a look at our Sealy Cumbrian Meadow mattress, or our Silentnight Spirit mattress. And if you were to lie on them you’d say “wow!”.
Many bed retailers will tell you if you want the best, buy pocket sprung. At one time I’d have agreed. But now I have my doubts. So don’t take my word for it. Go and visit one of our stores and try the latest beds that Silentnight and Sealy are making. You will be impressed.
