Oakfurnitureland coming to Glasgow?

A bit of gossip today is that Bed Shed are closing their bed superstore in Uddingston.

Everyone on the Birkenshaw Trading Estate, including us at Archers Sleepcentre are speculating who is going to move in to take over the lease.

The consensus is Oakfurnitureland. They only have 4 stores and not one north of Chester and Stockport, which does seem a long way away. But we saw a job advert for a Glasgow manager and the estate burger van heard that it was Oak Furniture Land. They would be a great complement to the retail park and we do hope they come. 

Is that the level of our speculation? Yep.

Anyhow I always did wonder how Bed Shed could afford that site at Uddingston. I am pleased they are going. Not just for us you see. I am sick of the furniture trade lining the pockets of landlords and leaving nothing for the poor furniture retailer.

With this move Bed Shed can sell beds for a profit and we can make a little bit more too. There is a silver lining.

Of course we also sell solid oak bedroom furniture. Our Hereford Rustic Oak, British sourced, does very well  (we haven’t got the range on the internet to show you). But our speciality is lower priced oak finished bedroom furniture. I guess we thought that the “oak and brown leather” boom had tapered. Shows how little we know.

I have a personal experience that puts me off calling myself Archers Oak Land. I used to run a Durham Pine franchise you see. And ever since the name was cast back in 1985, John Marshall the owner, fretted for 20 years what would happen when pine went out of fashion.

Look what happened to teak in the 1950′s. And black ash in the early 1980′s. And pine in the noughties. Boom and bust! So I’m going to hedge my bets. Stick to miscellaneouschinesewoodfurnitureland.co.uk, utterlywoodenly.co.uk and coffinsRus.com.
