Oakdale Electric Adjustable Beds
I popped onto the Oakdale Beds stand at the Scottish Ideal Homes Show. Wow! Electric adjustable beds of a style and variety that I had never seen before: beautiful oak bed frames, super king sleigh beds and sumptuous mattresses.
So I asked the lady representing Oakdale, whether she did any electric beds just geared up for health reasons. She looked at me witheringly (as most discerning woman do) and said and what health benefits may those be?
A light bulb moment. Of course. Oakdale beds are lifestyle beds for the wealthy. Although Archers Sleepcentre and Oakdale sell electric adjustable beds it turns we have completely different customers.
I do worry about how so many of our adjustable bed customers self certify for VAT exemption. Heart problems, arthritis etc are conditions that the VAT man is prepared to give up his 20%. And we encourage all our customers to examine the possibility. It is a big saving.
However it begs the question when the same electric bed mechanism is put inside an expensive oak bed frame: can you still claim all the VAT back?
I feel comfortable about our choice of electric beds. Certainly our cheapest electric bed, The Active, isn’t going to win top prize for comfort. It’s firm (which us Scots like) and has the same function as our most expensive adjustable beds. When you pay more with us, almost all the difference is in the quality of the mattress.
My favourite is our Chloe electric bed. Top quality memory foam mattress, very light and offers superb comfort and support. The prices continue to go up and I do think the more you spend the better quality sleep you will have. But what does the VAT man say? When does a health benefit become simple sheer bloody luxury.
