Metal bedsteads back in fashion
For quite a few years now metal bedsteads have been much less popular than wooden bed frames . For sure, the very cheap metal bedsteads have always sold but any higher quality metal beds just sat there on the shop floor and looked at us. Metal, whether silver, brass, painted or nickel, seem great for guest beds, childrens beds and spare rooms but not good enough for the master bedroom.
However just over the last few months we have brought in some new higher quality metal bedsteads that have sold in numbers. The biggest metal bed frame sellers have been nickel beds ( a dark gun metal look with a high polish). They are beautiful and striking. There are quite a few companies importing these beds and fortunately we have kept in touch with the best suppliers of these quality beds. Slow moving beds have always been beset with stockholding issues – delivery lead times can easily go out to 12 weeks. So we need to make our enquiries and ensure that we don’t just buy in any old contemporary metal bed in a nickel finish – they need to be in stock here in the UK.
My own view is that the nickel finish bed frames will be a 2009 phase that will pass. It’s the kind of finish you might expect on a Star Trek set. I say bring back the good old fashioned brass bedstead and the beautiful cream and black bedsteads that once were so popular. This is giving away how old I am isn’t it? Post mid life crisis. Anyone want to buy a motorbike and a flash car?
