Manchester Furniture Show 2010
It’s small but diverse. It’s parochial but insightful. It’s over in a flash, but so memorable. I love the Manchester Furniture show.
So what were the highlights for 2010? Of course there were the usual. Welcome Bedroom Furniture, all glitzy, showing off their Knightsbridge bedroom furniture collection in scarlet and black. I surmised, the Caernarfon fleshpots are bringing out the worst in old John Peterson, Welcome’s MD. He needs to get out of North Wales more.
Nick Oldham from Protect a Bed put on a good show. If a 10 year guarantee on a terry towelling mattress protector can make Nick so excited I shudder to think what he gets up to between the sheets. I can picture him lying there, wrapped in cling film. Look I’m totally dry and totally off my rocker. We have bought some btw.
I spent some time with a company called Optimise. They offer a complete IT solution for furniture retailers. Clients include Olympian, our next door neighbour on Great Western Road, Glasgow. So I asked them if they could do this. And I asked them if they could do that. Then I asked them if they could undo this. And undo that. They came up with all the answers. Optimise could do everything.
My hand was holding the pen all ready to sign up when Robert grabbed me by the wrist and whispered… Angela, Sonja, Jim….
I am truly sorry to drag you guys into the story, because many other names could have come out… Billy, George, Brian…
“You mean that it won’t be possible for David B to input all the orders, process all the invoices and book out all the stock on his own?” I asked. Yes there was a fatal flaw. How many geek bed sales consultants do we have? To the last boy and girl; cool, sexy and totally ungeeky.
