Mr Alan Warr, or the ‘old wise owl’, inspiration behind Cumberland Bedding’s owl logo, was the man who started the company in 1982.
Beginning life as a huge shed where Mr Warr made and sold beds from, Cumberland Bedding Co eventually moved into a shop which Alan Warr transformed into a showroom, allowing customers to come in and test each bed.
An unfortunate accident caused by a rogue firwork almost tore the company apart, but the resiliancy of the staff and management at Cumberland Bedding really shone through, and they fought back to move all the way back up the ladder and currently have a factory in Dagenham, Essex.
The mission statement from Cumberland Bedding is simple; they’re committed to solving customers bed and mattress problems, committed to providing the best design and manufacturing of high quality beds, continue to upgrade and improve their systems and maintain good supplier relationships, helping to provide the customer with the best end product possible.

If you’ve already got a mattress that is suitable, then you can buy the divan base separately from Cumberland Bedding Co, with no worries about quality or durability. The same amount of effort and care goes into creating a great bed base as goes into manufacturing the perfect mattress.
The Lincoln storage base from Cumberland Bedding is a great example of simplicity and fantastic craftsmanship, as a deep divan base made from sustainable wood.
The supporting struts are carefully placed to ensure a comfortable surface for your mattress, and the solid supporting legs give the divan base the strength and shape that it needs.
Drawers can be fitted into the base, a maximum of 4 in a double bed base, and are upholstered in the same fabric as the base to ensure a seamless look.
Headboard bolts, castors and a choice of ticking is also available.
Headboards can also be purchased from Cumberland Bedding, and can be tailor made to fit your particular size of bed.
The Boston headboard is a basket weaved headboard, with 9 different colours, and comes upholstered in a faux suede material.
