Black and White Sell Beds for Bed Shed
Isabell does her best to be the Rottweiler receptionist, but sometimes she goes all cuddly and let’s a call through. This call was from Black and White Advertising Agency wanting to help us on our quest to take over the bed world. They had put the Bed Shed on the map and now it was our turn.
Well how could I say no? And the coincidence was that Ian Stewart from Black and White, myself and Craig Russell from the Bed Shed all had worked at Durham Pine. At the very least we could compare notes on what went wrong at Durham Pine (they were doing great when I left them – must have been Craig).
We have never been involved with a “full service agency”. So it was a bit of a surprise when they gave me an all over body massage. They didn’t, but it was clear that Black and White had got inside the furniture industry and understood what was going on more than just which papers we advertised in.
We spoke about A’s, B’s and C1′s. How we could increase our average unit sale and how we could match up our image to our actualitie. We spoke about the competition, the internet, and the best part of the market to attack. I was gripped.
Then we started to look at adverts. A gloom descended. Did I think the Bed Shed adverts were any better than ours? No. Bensons for Beds? No. Dreams? Well maybe. But could I picture Mr C1 reading the paper and saying “Jings, that’s the bed for me”.
This marketing game is a tough one. I have a cheap Lincoln bunk bed I want to sell loads of at huge profits. A red sofa bed that no one likes – how can I get people just to take it off my hands at any price? A Silentnight Oberon mattress that when I lay on was one of the best feelings I have ever felt (honest). People need to know!
And every time I came back to the internet. What a great way to tell people what you’ve got. Have a look and phone Paul on 0845 463 8173. He won’t give you a massage but he will tell you all you need to know about beds. Expert bed advice guaranteed.
