Bed Shed News

Bed Shed, Scotlands budget bed retailer, has announced plans to open 8 bed shops throughout Scotland. East Kilbride, Hamilton, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Rutherglen, Hamilton, Mussleburgh, Dumbarton are all target towns.

I remember Steven Paton, the original owner of Bed Shed saying to me that there was room for 50 more bed shops in Scotland. The new owners, who also own Bensons for Beds, Harveys and Reids seem to be taking his advice!

In the old days, in Bed Shed’s pre corporate times, we were great fans. The Patons really shook up the sleepy old Scottish bed world and made a wee nest egg for themselves in the process. People need affordable beds and that’s what Bed Shed offered. And they still do but they don’t seem to have the same joie de vivre as when the Ayrshire boys ran the show. I loved those handwritten tickets and cash deals…..

At Archers Sleepcentre we also look to offer a very competitive range of affordable beds and mattresses. There is a line where affordable falls into cheap and nasty. A cheap bed that breaks isn’t cheap it’s just a rip off. And what retailers like ourselves and Bed Shed need to watch so very carefully is that we buy good value and not rubbish.

Anyhow all this competition is good for the customer. Over the last 10 years prices have tumbled and no one would characterise the current Scottish bed retail scene as sleepy. All these new bed shops make us all sharpen our pencils and work doubly hard to give the public what they truly deserve. A first class product with first class service at fantastic low prices. Archers Sleepcentre – upwards and onwards!
