Archers Sleepcentre Internet Record Bed Sales
Our Archers Sleepcentre internet sales team hasn’t broken their weekly bed sales record since 12 November 2011. Beginning to feel we had lost our touch. But a new record was set 2 weeks ago and by midnight tonight we’ll have an even higher sales record. Just in time for the Olympics.
This is of course the time for the Glasgow Groundhog to pronounce how we are going to do for the next 6 months. Scottish school holidays are coming to an end. Sales will start to soar from now to November. And for the last 5 years I have said to myself “…that’s the recession over, now back to business.”
Alas every morning I wake up to the same stark fact: the great British public don’t need as many new beds as they used to. This year I listen differently to the Groundhog. This is how the bed weather is going to be for ever – so we better get used to it. And the dawning realisation is making me happy.
Happy? Me? At last the furniture industry is coming out of self denial and the realisation that this is as good as it gets is dawning on everyone. We have had 5 years of furniture companies striving to grow their market share through this recession with no regard to profitability or sanity. Sanity, if not profitability, appears to be returning.
There are still 2 Bensons for Beds shops in Greenock. Dreams has 4 Bed Superstores servicing the good people of the Glasgow East End – next to High Wycombe, the most deprived population in Western Europe. And the pay per click advertising on Google is staggering.
But it has been a year or two since the chains have opened any new stores. And though the internet still resembles the Wild West we are in the phase where the Gold prospectors have all gone home and we are left with the die-hards who still think there is gold in them there hills.
And with the return of rationality I feel happy. The lunatics are handing the keys back to the asylum and we can all plan for the future according to logic rather than hubris.
So how do we plan to improve sales at Archers Sleepcentre? We have introduced a complete new range of divan beds and mattresses from Silentnight and Sealy. Our core own brand beds have been upgraded and we have introduced a great new choice of latex beds. The Euphoria king size divan bed from Highgrove has been a huge winner and only introduced some 8 weeks ago.
Our new Bedroom furniture offer from Welcome and Rauch is superb and I know all our sales consultants are falling in love with Rauch. Defect free and they never let us down. That’s the Germans for you.
Our 2012 offering versus our 2007 offering? It’s not close. If we had been this good back then I’d be on a beach now training with the 2014 Commonwealth Games Scottish ladies volleyball team.
