Is Archers Sleepcentre the best bed ETailor in the UK?
Well the National Bed Federation (NBF) think so and rewarded us with this prestigious honour at their recent gala dinner and awards ceremony at the Telford Bed Show.
With more than 30 years in the bed industry, I’ve seen so many awards handed out to retailers, simply because of who they are, but I genuinely believe …continue reading : Wake up to Archers- NBF UK Bed ETailor of the Year

Do You Know What Lives in Your Mattress?
It’s a Fact: Within the first three months a new un-protected mattress will quickly become colonised with over 2 Million dust mites, a major problem for allergy sufferers.

I am a huge fan of Amazon, Argos and other catalogue retailers. There is enormous choice and when it comes to price you know you aren’t getting ripped off. But do they have a buyer who travels round the bed industry trying out each bed and selecting the best. Or do they say to a Company, “Give us your product range and we will put it on the net”?
It was the other day when I said to Paul Longmore, our bed guru, I don’t believe that …continue reading : Buy a Bed From Amazon?

At the end of the day a divan base is an upholstered box and a means of keeping you mattress of the floor, but it’s still the most popular option for supporting your mattress.

I read the other day a new national chain of bed shops is to be launched called Buzz Beds. I was surprised. The public needs another chain of look-a-like bed shops? Is Bensons for Beds, Dreams and Sleepright not enough?
I was equally surprised because it seems the independent bed retailer has weathered the recessionary storm and we are seeing little green shoots of independent growth. In my own patch I have seen new bed shops open and thrive: Morrison’s Bed Centre, Time for Bed and The Bedroom at Ayr. And old timers like Sleepy Valley and Gillespie’s of Greenock girding their loins and going for expansion.
Meantime the chains have taken a hammering. Bed Shed gone, Dreams closing a third of their stores and Walmsleys croaking it.
What is going on? What will happen …continue reading : New National Bed Retailer: Buzz Beds

It’s good to be tall, but when your longer than your mattress and your feet hang off the end of the bed, it’s not pleasant, comfortable or cosy. You need an extra long mattress.
When you have to wear bed socks or curl up just to keep your feet comfy in bed it’s time to get yourself a mattress that’s long enough to keep your feet warm and snug.
To cater for those people who are taller than average, we have created …continue reading : Cold feet in bed? Need an Extra Long Mattress?

Our just finalised annual accounts show that Archers Sleepcentre have sold more beds in 2012 than ever before. However that bald fact is just half the story. The other half is Archers Sleepcentre also made the smallest profit ever. So if I was a bed customer, I would be happy. As the owner of a barely profitable bed shop, I am less enamoured.
But “survival is the new success”, so the Kaymed Beds MD tells me. And a profit is better than a loss. Bah humbug I say! Working this hard is just plain hard.
Anyhow with the backdrop of Dreams Beds going into administration I am trying …continue reading : Archers Sleepcentre Bed Sales Increase in 2012

Dreams Beds are closing stores across Scotland. Customers will have less choice, but it should allow remaining bed retailers such as ourselves and Bensons for Beds to afford more staff, better service and carry more stock for faster delivery. Which should be good for the customer.
Trading has been hard for a long time. After 23 consecutive quarters of like for like annual sales fall we at Archers have been living on fresh air. How I wish I was a civil servant striking over my reduced pension rights. (I was a civil servant once – so solidarity to the servants I say).
It has been so long since bed retailing was easy I forget. We have lost …continue reading : Dreams Beds Closing Down Sale
