Relaxation 'gained through bedroom decor' If a person is struggling to relax in their bedroom, it may be time to make changes to the bed frame, headboard, furniture or wall colours, according to an expert.

Marni Jameson, a syndicated columnist in the US press, opined that people need a mellow colour scheme to get the full effect of comfort, as bedroom decor needs to calm a person and not bamboozle them with crazy patterns or hues, such as taxi yellow or citrus orange.

Anything associated with a working or office environment - laptops, mobile phones, paperwork and the like - should also be completely avoided as this will distract people from the notion of getting a good sleep.

Furthermore, a dark room is imperative to sleep as people aiming to get any good mattress time will be hindered by light; Ms Jameson explained that the body responds to light as a stimulant due to basic human DNA.

Managing director of Goldmine Project Consultants Ketan Sheth recently promoted the use of storage in the bedroom as clutter can also create worry and restlessness in the boudoir.
