The mattress has a medium support 13.5 gauge open coil spring unit, also known as a Bonnell spring. The spring unit is made up of rows of hourglass shaped springs connected at the top and bottom by a spiral wire, known as the helical wire.
The edge of the spring unit is strengthened by a 9 gauge rode edge wire that supports the outside of the spring unit and helps prevent border breakdown.
