The spring unit is made up of rows of hourglass shaped open coil springs, also known as a Bonnell spring system. Each spring is connected at the top and bottom by a spiral wire, known as the helical wire which runs from the head to the foot of the mattress.
The perimeter of the spring unit is strengthened by a thick rod-edge wire that supports the edge of the spring system and prevents border breakdown.
