We offer a wide range of divan headboards for sale. Our most popular are the simple upholstered headboards in a velour fabric, but for the master bedroom you may want a more striking, substantial headboard - check out our traditional or contemporary headboard designs in metal, leather and wood. They will complement most bedroom furniture collections.
Quite often the same design of headboard can come in a choice of finishes, eg nickel and brass, or ivory and black. If you can't see what you are looking for, phone us and we can try and find it for you.
All our headboards are designed to fit British standard size divan beds from a small 2ft 6 single bed to a super king size bed.
Most headboards can be adjusted for height and the usual practice is to adjust the headboard to rest on the top surface of the mattress. Some headboards have legs that sit on the bedroom floor and in these cases no adjustment is required.
The headboard bolt fixings on a divan bed are most often covered by the divan fabric. If there are no markings to show where the bolt fixings are, you need to feel with your fingers for the bolt holes. It sounds hard but normally they are easily found and you simply make a hole in the fabric at that point.
The actual headboard bolts come with the divan. Do not lose these bolts the bolts between different bed manufacturers are not often interchangeable.
The purpose of a headboard may not be obvious at first. It can initially seem that they are just accessories for aesthetic purposes and do not really play any role in getting a good, sound night's sleep.
While headboards certainly do affect the appearance of a bed and, by extension, the entire room, they are actually functional as well as fashionable.
The British Snoring and Sleep Apnoea Association has explained that sleeping flat on one's back can exacerbate sleeping problems. Sleeping supine can cause the soft palate and tongue to drop back in the throat, blocking the airway. Theoretically, it would seem that it might help not to sleep on one's back, although this is not usually practical.
But a supportive, comfortable headboard can certainly make a difference when you are sitting up in bed, either to read or because you are trying not to lie on your back.
Padded headboards are more comfortable to lean against as you look at your book or watch television. You may decide a darker colour is best to hide any marks that you might leave.
Headboards may come as part of a bed frame, but if you sleep on a divan you can choose the style yourself and even change it from time to time if you like. Be careful to check the dimensions of your bed, though, since headboards are not made on a one-size-fits-all basis.
Single bed headboards
When it is only you in the bed, you have full rein over whatever headboard you like. Wooden ones may give an attractive, traditional appearance, but they are less comfortable to lean your back against.
Headboards often come in several colours, so you can choose which one complements your bedroom, or even change the board depending on what bed sheets you are using.
If you have a four-foot wide bed, which can also be known as a small double, headboards still exist that will fit properly.
Double bed headboards
You may like a rectangular headboard, or one with a curved shape. If you share your bed with someone, make sure that the double bed headboard is to both your tastes and comforts; both of you need to find it supportive to lean against.
Faux suede and faux leather may be options, while velour finishes are another possibility. If you cannot decide on one shade for both of you, there may be multicoloured models available too.
King size bed headboards
The larger a headboard is, the more the eye will be drawn to it. You may decide a dark, dominant colour works well on your king size bed headboard, or a more neutral tone such as blue-grey or cream could be the better option.
Super king size bed headboards
It could be that if you have a very large bed, it looks a little empty without a super king size bed headboard to finish it off. A headboard in faux suede or damask could be the perfect finishing touch to the luxurious appearance of a super-sized bed for stretching out in.
Micro suede is another possibility to give you a soft cover to a supportive board.
Choose Archers
Choosing a headboard may seem like a daunting task but Archers can make it easy and help you find the style and colour that will suit your bedroom while propping you up comfortably in bed.
The Sleep Council recommends that you replace your mattress and bed at the same time, since they are supposed to work together to support your body and the frame will become worn with time even if it does not seem to be. Headboards, however, can be bought at any point in a bed's life span, so do not hesitate to take advantage of the wide choice offered by Archers.
