The Silentnight Indulge divan features a no turn micro quilted mattress with 25mm of visco elastic memory foam (*). The Indulge uses Silentnight's patented Miracoil 3 spring system (**) and the result is a winning marriage of technologies. Visco elastic memory foam could have been invented just for Miracoil - 25mm of visco is typically half the thickness that is used in most visco mattresses, but supported by Miracoil, the result is outstanding. Lie on our Indulge and you won't believe that you are not lying on a bed that's twice the price. Superb comfort and with less visco, the price is amazingly low. (*) Visco-elastic memory foam is a synthetic polymer that will respond to very small changes in pressure across its surface. It is the most profiling of all mattress fillings. If you were to place your open hand on its surface, the material would take the shape of your fingers. It is also temperature sensitive. The foam will relax more at body points that are constantly pressed against it. In this way it redistributes body weight, reduces pressure points and improves blood circulation. Indeed it was originally seen as a health product particularly suited to relieving bed sores.
There are two things to ask - how thick and how dense? Mattresses with the thickest and densest layers are the most expensive. Many people however prefer the feel of mattresses that use a thinner layer of less dense visco. So keep an open mind and try different types. Typical densities range from 40 to 100 kg/m3. Thicknesses range from 20mm to 80mm.
(**)The patented Silentnight Miracoil spring system has springs that are connected from head to toe thus distributing weight up and down the mattress instead of across it. Because the springs are not connected across the mattress someone sitting on one side of the bed will not affect the springs at the other side - so in particular you are insulated from the more restless of partners.
Also extra springs are concentrated in the centre third of the mattress to create a supportive "Posture Zone" just where the body needs it most. In fact there are approximately twice as many springs in a Silentnight mattress than in a standard open coil spring unit. Head to toe support and even additional support exactly where you need it. That's the Silentnight Miracoil way, and a hugely successful way it is too.
