Rubberwood is one of the more durable hardwood lumbers used in the manufacturing of home furnishings. The Hevea brasiliensis (Rubberwood) tree is becoming more popular with furniture makers for its eco friendly, sustainable qualities. Each year these trees are harvested for their sap, the worlds primary source of natural rubber, but as the trees get older, the sap yield decreases and the trees historically were chopped up for firewood. 

Now many furniture companies use this versatile wood as it's strong, flexible and have very little shrinkage making it one of the more stable construction materials available for furniture manufacturing. Despite the name, rubberwood does not bounce or stretch.
